The Fayette R-III Board of Education had a busy Monday night. Here are some of the highlights:
With April 5th election results in and certified The Board accepted the results, swore in new members Michelle Howell and Eric McSwain, re-elected Howell as president and chose Gary Gose as vice president.
Changes in staffing were taken care of for the 2016-2017 school year. Jeff Jacques (jay-kuze), formerly Principal in Owensville, Missouri, was hired as the new high school principal. Kristen Hough of Carrollton, will become a middle school science teacher and Philip Long of Jefferson City, will serve as a high school science teacher. Both have current teaching experience.
The Board also accepted resignations. Kindergarten teacher Stephanie Shafer and high school science teacher Chris Bryan both submitted theirs.
Curriculum and schedule changes were dealt with including a move to add a new Contemporary History course to high school class lists that would teach kids more about what has happened between the Vietnam war and present day.
And the summer school program was approved for all grades. Summer school is May 25 through June 22 with the exception of Fridays, weekends and Memorial Day. Classes run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge, transportation will be provided through a modified bus schedule and enrollment forms will be accepted through May 6.
