Local Boonville residents and law enforcement heard from the Missouri National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) Executive Director Cynthia Keele on Tuesday. She spoke during a about legislation that could affect mental health within the state at a meeting held at the Nelson Memorial Methodist Church. Laws currently in the works include a bill, being sponsored by Kevin Engler (R) of Farmington, that could potentially raise the Medicaid Asset limit to $2,000 from $1,000, A bill by Jeannie Lauer (R) of Blue Springs that could allow teachers to count suicide prevention training toward professional continuing education and a bill by Jill Schupp (D) of St. Louis that is proposing that people with mental health need prompt access to care.
