Allstate engineer Donald Fisher told New Franklin city council members Last Monday that their new wastewater system was fully operational.
The city now has a land-application sewage discharge system on about 150 acres at a cost of about $1.6 million. USDA-Rural Development is providing about $1.4 million.
New rates have gone into effect as a result of the completion of the land-application sewage system. Minimum sewer rates rose to $23.25 from a previous minimum rate of $20. The city was required to raise sewer rates to pay for the upgraded sewer system.
