The 17th Annual Fayette Art Show, part of the 8th Annual Fayette Festival of the Arts celebration, has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 6. and local artists and photographers are being asked to prepare early for the event. By Issuing an early call the Festival coordinator, Jim Steele, hopes more professional artists will have time to enter their works in the show. Professional artists are lined up and ready to serve as judges for the show and five entry fields are included in the adult section of the art show with monetary prizes and ribbons to be awarded to winning works.
During the show student and Juvenile works along with photography will be on display in the Howard County Courthouse and adult amature and professional artwork will be available for viewing in CMU’s Ashby-Hodge Gallery from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a “Meet the Artists” receptions (with refreshments) held at both sites.
Other treats scheduled for the annual Fayette Festival of the Arts include performances from the Memorial Bandstand and the courthouse lawn, activities surrounding Howard County's Bicentennial craft demonstrations, a cake contest, vintage vehicles, and other offerings. A variety of food and refreshments will be available. Fayette Festival of the Arts is sponsored by the Fayette Area Heritage Association (FAHA) and other organizations.
Student entries will be registered and received at the Howard County clerk’s office in the Fayette Courthouse between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Mon-Tues, Aug. 1 & 2, 2016. Pre-registration may be completed if you are unable to come by during the above registration dates/times at the Fayette newspaper office, 203 N. Main, during regular business hours. The newspaper’s phone number is: (660) 248-2235. Students will be judged by age classification; Elementary, Middle School, or High School. A particular student classification is based on the student’s status for the 2015-16 school year. All students will receive a certificate of participation.

These are the five entry fields included in the adult art show with monetary prizes and ribbons to be awarded to winners: Painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor or pastel); Drawing (pencil, or pen and ink); Photography; Sculpture; and Varied Media. Each entry field is open to any artist irrespective of age or classification. Adults will be judged in one of two categories, professional or amateur.
First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded for each of the five adult entry fields in all classifications.
Artists are encouraged to get their works together for the show early this year. A total of up to four original entries may be submitted by any one artist. The fee is $10 per adult entry (professional or amateur), with no charge for student entries. Adult entry checks are payable to the Fayette Area Heritage Association Festival. No advance registration is necessary.
